The Dark Knight

I already did Batman way back when we started this thing.  But, it kinda sucked and was rushed.  On top of that, I've been watching Batman the Animated Series on DVD, so it's on the brain.  And thirdly, Co-Worker's Kid requested Batman from the cartoon.  What we have here is a combo of styles that pissed people off.  I did a black cowl last time, but it didn't show so well, so I chose the throwback blue/gray ensemble, with the Animated series style.

Two-Face

Since I've had my daughter, I've been subject to many cartoons.  It got me thinking back to my love for Batman: The Animated Series.  Here's one of my favorite characters, District Attorney turned villain, Harvey "Two Face" Dent.

The Boy Who Lived

It's been a while.  Nathalia hasn't been helping, so I'm on my own.  On top of that, I got a bunch of crap from my co-workers, because Harry Potter is too blonde.  What a bunch of whiners.  Since I have sucked at updating lately, I reserve the right to take off the glasses and hair and replace with an orange mop to make Ron Weasley.

King James

Co-Worker is a fan of the Detroit Pistons and asked me to make him a basketball player.   Unfortunately for her, I'm a HEAT fan.  She gets Lebron, sports the fabulous Miami Floridians jersey.

Pope

Though a godless, heathen atheist, I was raised Catholic, and still have a strange fascination with religious icons.  The Pope is one of my faves, because of his elaborate hats.

Hulkster

I used to watch the WWE as a kid, back when it was called the WWF.  I never did like Hulk Hogan.  He was a face, and I was more into heels.  Plus, he was a goody two-shoes, telling me to say my prayers eat my vitamins.  I still don't like Hogan the wrestler or pray, but I do eat my vitamins.

I know the story of Pinocchio in theory, but I haven't really watched it start to finish in a long time...maybe ever.  So when I catch a glimpse of it and there's a sly fox character, I'm like "WTF?"

Aladdin

Nathalia made a very good Aladdin, but she printed out Abu.  I'm not sure if that constitutes cheating or not.

Peter Pan

Peter Pan starts Disney week.  Peter Pan is the story of a boy who makes a army of children and is seen as a hero.  But when Kony does it, everyone flips out.

Leia

I was feeling particularly uninspired with Leia.  I could've done the signature robe and gun, but I didn't.  My bad.

Master Yoda

I said "Nathalia, make Yoda."  She said "I'll try."  I said "Try not.  Do or do not.  There is no try."

The Almighty Jabba

I think that this is the only one we've done to date that doesn't have a regular body.

Luke

I asked Nathalia to make Luke, because I like the way she does hair.  I would've added twin suns, but whatever...

Lord Vader

Star Wars is my thing.  Even now, when I think that about half of it is pretty crappy, I still love it.  So, I knew we had to do a Star Wars week at some point.  To keep our options open for later, we decided to stick to the original trilogy only.  Of course, we had to do Vader, but with the Helmet, none of Co-Worker's kid would shine through.  Instead, we did the old Vader that looks like a potato.

True Story:  When I was a kid, McDonald's were mostly yellow buildings with brown roofs.  Then, they started to class it up a bit and started creating these high-end restaurants, with nicer tables and posh designs.  My Dad took me to eat at the grand opening of one near our house.  It was kind of a big deal.  They had these special seats that were high barstools.  I lost my balance and fell into the floor in front of the crowd.

Wendy

Co-Worker gets pissy when I dress our subject up like a girl.  1) I don't care and 2) you can't have Fast Food week without Wendy.  They have square hamburgers....square!

When Burger King started using the plastic-faced king for advertising, never in a million years did I think it would take off.  Wrong.  Now he haunts my dreams.

This is perhaps my favorite Co-Worker's Kid of all time.

Jack in the Box begins our Fast Food week, courtesy of Nathalia.  I've never eaten at Jack in the Box, since they don't have them in South Florida.  I actually don't know much about them, except I remember a bunch of people getting sick from it some decades ago.

Who watches the Watchmen?

 

I read the Watchmen graphic novel when I heard it was going to be a movie.  Unlike some, I thought the movie was super dope.  Unfortunately, you had to be familiar with the source material to really get everything from the film.  I am always drawn to characters where the lines between good and evil aren't clearly defined.  The Comedian certainly fits that mold.

Kick Ass

This comic was dope.  This movie was dope, too.  Check it out...not with your kids, though.

Caps

Next in our Super Hero series comes The First Avenger, Steve Rogers.  I'm told that Co-Worker's Kid loved this one.  In recent years, I've become a pretty big fan of Captain America.  Between a comic that I got, playing as him in the Ultimate Alliance games, and liking the movie quite a bit, he's quickly become one of my favorite Superheroes.  USA!

Our 2nd Super-Hero this week is Superman, as his alter-ego, Clark Kent.  Some interesting facts about Superman: 1) I had to stop watching Smallville because the story was going nowhere and Clark was always acting like a total bitch.  2) I heard good things about the comic All-Star Superman, but despite being kinda interesting, I didn't really like it, which led me to realize that Superman just isn't my bag.  3) I met my wife wearing this exact outfit above.  True story.

Spidey

Spidey comes at the request of co-worker's kid.  He's been begging to be made into him for a while now, but I was hesitant, because both Spidey's head and entire face are covered with a mask.  To compromise, I made the Spider-Man from the scene where he's fighting Green Goblin and his mask gets all torn and tattered.

More importantly, Natalia and I have decided to start theming some of our submissions together, weekly.  This starts Super Hero week.  Stay tuned.

SOPA Blackout

I actually shut down my other website, www.TheDolphinsMakeMeCry.com, because it actually has regular users.  If I blacked out here, only 1 person would notice.  But I still wanted to show my support to the cause.  Anyway, the blackout seems to have worked, as the bill is pretty dead in its current form.  Don't worry, though: I'm sure another piece of legislation to water down our freedoms is just around the corner.

Nathalia and I both share a love for Michael Jackson.  He's the first musician that I really loved.  I was about 6.  (He probably loved me, too.)  I even went as his for Halloween one year, with a sparkly glove and everything.  One good thing about his death was that pretty much every radio station played his music for an entire week.

The office had off today, but since we were expecting phone calls, I came in anyway.  It turned out that we had a really good day.  In celebration of Dr. King and all of those days that I got off of school on his behalf, I made this in his honor. 

Live long and prosper.

I was never too much of a Star Trek fan as a kid.  As such a Star Wars geek, it felt like I was cheating on George Lucas.  Since then, I have enjoyed some of the films (even the ones everyone else hates.)  When the re-boot came out, I was floored at how good it was.  Seriously, even if you're not a fan, you should check it out.  Then I went back and watched the first season of the Original Series.  Good premise, but the set design blows.

Bieber Fever

My niece, Jenny, requested that I make a Justin Bieber.  I didn't.  I just didn't know if he was iconic enough to make it work.  Then, out of nowhere, Nathalia coincidently came up with this.  Props.  Jenny was pleased. 

Godzilla

This was just an excuse to play with scale and make Co-Worker's Kid really big.  I have no real attachment to Godzilla.

Oompa Loompa

I want to say that I loved Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as a kid.  While somewhat nostalgic for it, however, the reality is that that movie game me the friggin' creeps.  It fostered a healthy fear in me of "little people".  ...and that little flute thing that Wonka plays = night terrors.

I love the Terminator series.  ...even the 3rd one, if only because the ending had enormous balls.  Salvation sucked, though.
